This YouTube channel put a Ford Mustang Mach-E GT up against Tesla Model Y Performance in a drag race.

It was truly a battle of the EVs and one dominated.

With electric cars growing increasingly popular, there’s more and more options out there for drivers to choose from.

And what better way to choose between models than subjecting them to a race?

The ultimate EV showdown: The Ford Mustang Mach-E GT versus the Tesla Model Y Performance

On Edmunds Cars’ YouTube channel, they pitted the two cars against each other in a series of races.

With both cars coming in at similar prices – just $1,000 of each other – and having the same 0 to 60mph speeds, they don’t seem too dissimilar at first glance.

However, the Model Y is 500 pounds lighter, which can make all the difference.

Whilst the Mach-E GT boasts 480HP and 634Ib-ft of torque, the Model Y’s figures aren’t as set in stone.

Estimates put it around 450HP and 500Ib-ft of torque.

So again, not a million miles apart from each other.

This isn’t the first time that the Mach-E GT has been drawn into a direction comparison – one YouTuber pitted it against a standard Mustang GT.

With all that in mind, how would things pan out once on the race track?

On the first quarter-mile, the two cars start off at around the same position, with the Mach-E having a slight lead.

But the Tesla soon quickly gains momentum and powers ahead, leaving the other car in the dust.

“Less weight, more power!” the Tesla’s driver exclaimed.

“I’m gapping him! I’m taking him to Gapple-bees!”

There’s always chance for redemption in the second round though, right?

Again, it was the same old story – a strong start from the Mach-E and a resounding victory for the Model Y as it pulled ahead.

Drag races can be such a drag – for the loser

The drivers opted to do a roll race next, meaning they would start off at 30mph before going into race mode upon reaching a set of cones.

Even though the Mach-E had a slight advantage at the cones, the Tesla was once again first to cross the finish line.

The Mach-E driver noted: “The Model Y feels visceral and almost violent compared to [the Mach-E].

“I’m in a car that’s more comfortable than his […] with more power and more torque, and none of that matters.

“The only thing that matters is that the Tesla is lighter, and that it does not stop pulling, no matter what.”

We think that’s what you call a backhanded compliment.

So there you have it, the Model Y earned itself a big W in this case, if only by a hair.

Drag races are often an effective way to draw out a victor between two comparable car brands.

But oftentimes, they can produce surprising results, as was the case when the BMW M8 took on the Dodge Challenger and Charger Hellcat at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

In another Vegas race, the Chevy Corvette Stingray totally smoked the Toyota Supra.

Whatever the outcome of a race, one thing is guaranteed – entertainment value.
