This 1990 Honda Accord has racked up over one million miles across the US.

In its long and storied history, it’s only ever been towed once.

So, what is the secret to its longevity and success?

The team over at YouTube channel TFLclassics took a closer look.

The Honda Accord with an insanely high mileage

Now, when it comes to cars with a lot of numbers on the clock, we’ve seen a fair few over the years.

The current world record holder is Irving Gordon, whose 1966 Volvo 1800S has more than three million miles on the odometer.

Also in the running is Greek taxi driver Gregorios Sachinidis, who has a respectable 2.85 million locked in on his 1976 Mercedes-Benz 240D.

All in all, there are a fair few cars that have hit the seven digits.

Most of them owe their longevity to the care and frequent maintenance of their owners.

So, is that the case with the Honda Accord?

If you were to look on the sticker on the car’s rear, you would think this Honda had been driven for 1,002,517 miles.

However, a quick glance at the odometer would tell you that it was now on 1,003,440.

It was bought by a man called Joe who worked for Honda, and he used it to drive across the US to different dealerships.

He was based in Maine in the North East, so you can imagine how much driving he had to do to get to certain states.

Figuring out how much money was spent on fuel over the years would be a tall task for anyone.

It’d probably be enough to buy a whole new car.

The one time in a million miles that this car got towed

There’s been a few transmission fluid and oil changes over the years, but the engine has remained the same over the decades.

Impressively, this Accord has only ever been on a tow truck once in its life.

According to one of the hosts: “A fuel pump went at about 741,000 miles.

“It’s been through 185 oil changes, nine timing belts, 13 sets of brake pads, 72 tires, 31 transmission fluid changes.”

The interior has also held up remarkably well, despite some signs of wear on the seats and the steering wheel.

A million miles looks pretty good on this Honda.

And just to signify even further what a throwback this car is, the tape in the car’s player was a Madonna album.

Million Miles Joe could probably have driven to La Isla Bonita and back without breaking a sweat.
