Welcome to the million-mile club, where every vehicle has over a million miles on the odometer as they are the world’s highest mileage cars.

You might argue that long-haul trucks might easily have over a million miles, but it’s a lot harder for an everyday car to have that kind of mileage.

So we are only counting the cars owned by civilians.

World’s highest mileage cars

1966 Volvo 1800S — Irving Gordon

Currently, Irving Gordon holds the Guinness World Record for the highest mileage on a personal car.

His 1966 Volvo 1800S has over 3,000,000 miles on its odometer.

According to his estimations, Gordon drives over 100,000 miles per year, when he is visiting car shows.

He also takes very good care of the car as he changes the oil every 3,000 – 3,500 miles and the transmission fluid every 25,000 miles.

1976 Mercedes-Benz 240D — Gregorios Sachinidis

Gregorios Sachinidis comes in at number two with over 2,850,000 miles on his 1976 Mercedes-Benz 240D.

However, this is a bit of a cheat as Sachinidis used the car as a taxi driver and for personal use.

When he hit the milestone in 2004, Mercedes-Benz awarded him a brand new C-Class.

In exchange, he had to give away his prized Mercedes-Benz 240D, which now resides in Mercedes-Benz’s personal museum as one of the highest mileage cars in the brand’s history.

They don’t make cars like these anymore, since even a Tesla with the world’s highest mileage needed significant repairs.

1979 Volvo 245 GL — S.E. Makinen

This 1979 Volvo 245 GL doesn’t belong to a single person, but a company.

With over 1,630,000 miles, it’s one of the highest mileage cars in the world.

This first-year model is used as a company car by the Finnish logistics firm, S.E. Makinen.

According to the company, it didn’t do anything to the vehicle other than ‘proper care,’ and that says a lot about the old Volvo.

Other world’s highest mileage cars

So these were the top three highest mileage cars in the world.

However, it’s been a while since the mileage on these cars was last checked.

Other than these three, the following are the highest mileage cars in the world.

  • 1963 Plymouth Fury — 1,620,000 miles
  • 1963 Volkswagen Beetle — 1,610,000 miles
  • 1983 Lincoln Town Car — 1,300,000 miles
  • 1991 Chevrolet Silverado — 1,290,000 miles
  • 1966 Mercedes-Benz 250SE — 1,280,000 miles
  • 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 — 1,220,000 miles
  • 2006 Ford F-250 — 1,200,000 miles

The reason most of these cars managed to last this long was due to the great care and frequent maintenance performed by the owners.
