This Kansas-based YouTuber turned a Dodge Hellcat into an off-road rig, and things got wild on the first drive.
Westen Champlin debuted his one-of-one 4×2 Hellcat Challenger after it’d spent a year in the garage.
He and his team took it out for some off-roading to see how it would handle.
To say that things got messy fast would be an understatement.

Taking a Dodge Hellcat out for a bumpy first ride
Westen Champlin is no stranger to taking risks when it comes to cars.
The Kansas based YouTuber has been several car misadventures over the years.
You may recall that he drove a mini truck 1,000 miles to the northern most point of Alaska.

He also bought a wrecked rally car and fixed it up, in what turned out to be a fun project.
For a guy who drove a Humvee he hated from California to Kansas, you’d think there wouldn’t be any challenge that would phase him.
This Hellcat may have changed that.
Things were very different before the race, as an initial test drive went off without a hitch.
But things quickly became a comedy of errors from that point on, except nobody was laughing.

Disaster struck – and then things got muddy
Things first started going haywire when Champlin moved into four-wheel drive, and broke a locking hub.
Even getting some additional parts from the shop wasn’t enough to spare his car from further calamity, when the steering system fell apart at 65mph.

Champlin remarked: “Dude, that was terrifying!
“You haven’t lived until your off-road Hellcat’s steering falls off at highway speed.”
As you might expect, sending this thing into a mud hole didn’t make things any easier.
When it stalled, the wheels began spinning and mud was sent flying everywhere.
This green Hellcat suddenly looked very brown.

Fortunately Champlin had rolled up the windows by this point.
A damaged engine later, and it was time to head home – where the truck towing the Hellcat broke down.
When it rains, it pours.
