Gulf Coast News has shown an American in Maryland who created a heart-warming story by reuniting his drag racer dad with the racecar he drove in his youth.
The car’s former owner, who’s now 90 years old, had to sell it to keep his family afloat.
Following that, he believed he would never see the car again and that it was lost forever.
But after the current owner did some research, he found out who the car once belonged to, contacting the racer’s son to arrange a special reunion.
The racecar had the nickname ‘The Brief Encounter’
The car once belonged to Joe Dellutri. He raced it regularly during the 1960s and 1970s, earning it the nickname ‘The Brief Encounter.’
His son, Carmen Dellutri, said that rule number one with his dad’s car was that nobody touched it. You could look, but you couldn’t touch.
While Joe had some success with his racing, his family fell on more challenging times.
As Gulf Coast News reported, the car was sold to keep them afloat, and Joe simply believed he would never see it again.
However, life has a habit of throwing up surprises, and the former drag racer would get one of those over five decades later.
Because it wasn’t for another 50 years that muscle car enthusiast Bob Easton of Maryland spotted the car sitting at a drag strip.
Easton could tell that the old drag racer had a special story
Thanks to its lavish paint scheme, which had faded somewhat, Easton worked out that the racer had an interesting story to tell.
He conducted months of research, attempting to determine who the car once belonged to and its history.
After he had bought the car, Easton discovered that the vehicle belonged to Joe.
So he contacted the former racer’s son, Carmen.

Carmen confirmed that the vehicle was indeed the one his dad used to race.
The unique paint job is what proved to be the giveaway.
During his ownership, Easton had the car restored, and Carmen helped recreate the original paint job.
The two then reunited Joe with his drag racer, and he couldn’t believe that it was still around after five decades.
It was a truly heart-warming story, and the joy on Joe’s face really said it all.
