A Maybach owner has unknowingly sparked a new fashion trend.
With his vehicle suffering water leakage, hit decided to cover it in tarp.
The 31-year-old, from China’s Jiangsu province, apparently bought the brand-new Maybach GLS 480 in the summer.
But two days after picking up the $304,000 SUV, he discovered an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle’s dashboard and water leakage when it rained.

Attempting to fix the Maybach
The man did as anyone else would do – he swiftly took the car back to the dealership to be looked over, but the technicians were unable to find the source of the problem.
The dealership suggested taking the SUV to bits to get to the root of the problem, however, the owner understandably refused, believing they shouldn’t experiment on his new ride.
That didn’t stop them, though, as when the owner left the vehicle at the shop, the technicians went ahead anyway and took the SUV to pieces without his permission.
What happened next?
Understandably miffed by what had ensued, the owner decided to call the police, and even turned down the dealership’s offer of fixing things.
Keen to part ways with the water-leakage-hit vehicle, he asked about chopping it in for something else, only to be told he’d end up losing $91,000.
Irritated by the dealership’s attitude, and believing he could get a higher price on the second-hand market, the owner proceeded to call the official complaints hotline for three months, but received neither a solution or apology.
A Maybach owner with nothing to lose
That’s when he decided to take matters into his own hands, covering the SUV with tarp held down with tape.
Some people’s ingenuity never ceases to amaze, like this YouTuber who built a DIY Apple Vision Pro using only materials from a second-hand store, or the woman who chopped up her brand-new Tesla to make a DIY Truckla.
He wasn’t shy about taking to the road and even shot commercial-level videos of his travels to boost traffic and draw the brand’s attention.
In a strange turn of events, owners from across the country – including Maybach and other types of cars – showed their support by decking their cars out with tarp, too.
The owner, moved by the gesture, promised to donate the money to ‘talented but poor students to support their research’, if he could get a full refund.
The outcome
Before long, an unnamed member of staff from the dealership said they’d fulfil their responsibility to solve the problem, and asked the owner’s permission to thoroughly check over the SUV.
As for whether the issue was resolved, we’re uncertain – but it goes to show the lengths people will go to in a bid to get what they’re entitled to.
Fair play to you, sir.
