Determining the greatest sounding cars of all time is a bit like choosing your favourite pizza toppings – you want them all.

However, we have done the impossible and narrowed it down.

Here are what we believe to be seven of the best sounding cars of all time (in no particular order).

Lexus LFA

No car exhaust sound list would be complete without the appearance of the mighty Lexus LFA. This is a thoroughbred Japanese supercar that is powered by a 4.8-litre V10 engine.

It whips up 550hp and screams at the top of its lungs every time you touch the accelerator.

The engine itself is supplied by Yamaha and almost replicates a motorbike’s rev pattern – which adds to the incredible sound.

Porsche Carrera GT

Joining the V10 Lexus is the Le Mans engine-powered Porsche Carrera GT.

It bellows just as loud as an LFA thanks to its 5.7-litre V10 engine that produces about 600hp.

Porsche originally created this engine to compete in Formula 1 and Le Mans races.

But this never happened and the German carmaker had some leftover engines.

So, they decided to make the ultimate road-going supercar mated to a manual gearbox.

Ferrari 458 Italia

Next on the list is the Ferrari 458 – a car that many fans refer to as being the greatest made in the last decade.

This title is mostly thanks to its high-revving 4.5-litre V8 engine that produces 562hp at 9,000 RPM.

An interesting fact very few people know about the 458 is that its engine outputs 125hp per litre, which is a record for the highest amount of power per naturally aspirated piston.

If you listen to it roar you won’t be surprised.

Alfa Romeo 155 V6 Ti

One car you might not have expected to make an appearance on this list is an old ’90s Alfa Romeo.

But we think it might be the best sounding car on this list.

The Alfa Romeo 155 V6 Ti is powered by, yes you guessed it, a 2.5-litre V6 engine that produces 420hp at a staggering 11,800 RPM.

That’s more than a Porsche 911 GT3 RS, making it the ultimate hill climb pocket rocket.

Ferrari F12 Novitec N-Largo S

No car exhaust sound list would be complete without the appearance of a mighty V12 engine. So, we present to you the Ferrari F12 N-Largo S – possibly the greatest sounding Ferrari in existence.

What Novitec did was take a standard F12 and give it a full iPE exhaust system that accentuates the V12 exhaust note tenfold – making it howl like the devil.

Aston Martin Vantage V600

As we learned from the Porsche Carrera GT, mating a big, powerful engine to a manual gearbox creates a symphony for the ears.

That is precisely what Aston did with this.

What you are looking at here is the Aston Martin Vantage V600 – a limited production Vantage with just seven in existence.

Each costs more than $1 million and they are powered by a 6.0-litre naturally aspirated V12. And it sounds incredible.

Ford Shelby GT350R

When it comes to American muscle, very few cars beat a well-setup Ford Mustang.

The Shelby GT350R is quite possibly the best variant money can buy.

It is powered by a mighty 5.2-litre V8 engine that produces 526hp at over 8,000 RPM – making it ideal for straight-line speed on the drag strip.

However, one of the main perks of this engine is the glorious, sputtering gurgle it produces when you mash the throttle. Truly one of the best-sounding cars out there.
