One man in New York City has been hit with a huge list of tickets after dropping his Ford Flex off at a garage, only for it to be illegally parked for a year and a half.

It’s the dread of any driver; unnecessary expenditure for bending road rules to your favor, even just for a second.

Parking, speeding, insurance, we’ve all skirted the law for the briefest of moments, and getting hit with a ticket is a horrible stroke of misfortune.

But while some of us have been penalized for hitting 34mph in a 30 for one slip of concentration, this car has spent 18 months on the wrong side of the law – although the driver had no idea.

New York driver slapped with $2,000 ticket after a garage illegally parked his Ford Flex for 18 months

We’ve seen some quite colossal fines get accrued for improper parking of cars.

One person found their ex-partner had parked their VW Golf at Berlin airport for months while it racked up a fee of over $200k.

But this New York City man has been dunked in a pool of bother by his local garage, a massive 18 months after dropping off his Ford Flex.

Louis Denory, a retired janitor, dropped off his trusted car for repairs to A9’s Automotives (now rebranded to State to State) after being involved in a crash that was paid off by his insurance.

The garage reportedly continued to make excuses as to why the car hadn’t been fixed yet and they kept it for a full 18 months.

Despite being car-less, the man has now been hit with a whopping $2,000 ticket after the New York City borough informed him that the car had been parked on an illegal bay since he’d dropped it off.

The man reportedly tried to take the Ford Flex back from the garage, but it was blocked in by other cars and the tires had been let down.

Speaking to CBS News, the man said: “They would give excuses, talking about ‘Oh, the parts, there was a delay on the parts.’ This and that there, and then the guy talking about he had a death in the family, the owner of it, and nobody knew where the car was.”

Who paid the fines?

As of August of 2024, a judge ordered the garage to pay the outstanding tickets, but fast forward to the present day and reports suggest that nothing has been paid and the Ford Flex is still in the parking lot.

Multiple ongoing legal cases against State to State have allegedly been started since the garage was opened.

“I think about that car. I’m going to fight for that car, because the man upstairs gave it to me, and I’m going to fight for it,” Denory said.

At least this driver has been notified now, rather than 65 years down the line like one Canadian road user who was forced to fork out thousands for an ancient accident he doesn’t remember.
