This North Carolina man waited 34-years to buy his dream Ferrari, before he won it on an eBay auction.
Ervin Rodriguez, from Cary, North Carolina, had long admired the Italian brand, having grown up with a Ferrari 308 GTSi poster on his wall.
But finding one and making it his own wasn’t the easiest process.
However, once Ervin had a Ferrari sat in his garage, he knew it had been worth the wait.

Why one North Carolina man became a Ferrari owner after 34-years
They say that good things come to those who wait, and in the world of cars, this is often the case.
It’s not uncommon for people to have waited years before becoming owners of their dream car.

One man had to wait 25 years to be reunited with his Pontiac Firebird, while another had to wait six months to retrieve his 1967 Dodge Dart after it was stolen.
Those numbers fall short of the 34-years Ervin had to wait.
His love for the Ferrari began when he was growing up as a kid in Puerto Rico.
Ervin recalled: “When I was 16 or 17, I started dreaming about owning a car like this.
“Now I’m 52, I got it when I was 50. That’s quite a long time to wait.
“Like every 80s kid, I had a couple of posters in my room. I had the Lamborghini Countach, I had the Ferrari 308, and I had a Porsche 959.”

Ervin’s mom played a part in forming his love for the Ferrari.
He recalled that she used to watch Magnum P.I. a lot, in which Tom Selleck drove a 308.
Purchasing the car was something of a tribute to her.
Ervin said: “She was the first person I called [when I bought the car].
“It’s the realization of a dream, and not many people can say they have been able to do that.”
He expressed regret that he wasn’t able to take the Ferrari back to Puerto Rico so he could drive his mom around.
Whilst Ervin lives in North Carolina with his own family, his parents still reside in Puerto Rico.

Taking a closer look at this beautiful car
The car is classic cool, with black leather seats topped off with red lining.

Powered by a 2.9-liter V8 engine, this car is capable of 240hp and can hit a top speed of 150mph.
Ervin admitted: “It’s not the fastest car out there, it’s not the most powerful.
“But it’s a car that’s easy to work with, simple engineering.”
It was easy to work with, but it wasn’t easy to win.
Not that Ervin made it easy for himself, given that he waited until 30 seconds before the eBay auction ended to place a bid.
Ervin said: “The feeling was terrifying, and until the shipper was able to pick up the car, I was not in a good state of mind.
“It took a few weeks to come.
“It arrived at midnight and it was a thing of beauty. I look back and it was a scary couple of weeks.”

Many great cars have found their way onto eBay, including this 1962 Buick Electra and this 1995 Mitsubishi FTO.
It’s a great site to look on if you want a car on the cheaper side.
But if you want to spare your nerves, don’t leave it until 30 seconds before the end like Ervin did.
