A classic Chevy Silverado truck took on a modern Mustang in drag race and results speak for themselves

Someone recorded an age-old Chevy Silverado drag racing against many iconic names like the Mustang and Corvette on tracks in Florida and Indiana.

Nobody would expect GM’s best-selling classic truck to beat modern full-fledged sports cars.

However, the results were quite surprising, if not truly fascinating.

So, how well did the Silverado fare in these drag races?

Old Chevy Silverado and a Mustang go head-to-head

A YouTube channel called Drag Racing and Car Stuff posted a video compilation of an old Chevy Silverado getting some quarter-mile action against the likes of a modern Mustang and some Corvette models.

Before we even get to the race, there’s some important context at play here.

First things first, the Silverado’s evolution since its launch in 1999 has been remarkable.

Although the Mustang name came long before that, the truck is older in all these quarter-mile contests.

This video showed the truck being shown off at Bradenton Motorsports Park in Florida, the Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway in Indiana, and another Florida-based track called Orlando Speed World.

The Chevy Silverado raced against a C6 Corvette before the main event — where it clearly won.

While the truck only took 11.97 seconds to reach the finish line, the Corvette took ever-so-slightly more time at 12.64 seconds.

Raw power can sometimes win races

Further, a much newer S550 Mustang took a solid beating against the Silverado despite the ‘Stang having a faster elapsed time.

That was certainly because of this truck’s raw power, but it still makes you wonder.

Regardless of who took the title and who didn’t, you can’t argue that watching a Mustang drag race against anything never gets old.

Or this Tesla Model Y going head-to-head with the 2024 variant, for that matter.

Case in point — the ‘Stang is meant for drag races — even if it doesn’t win.

Anyway, the star of today’s show was the Chevy truck, and it didn’t disappoint.

What’s more, it even took on another Corvette and a Toyota GR Supra — where it dominated yet again.
