This Pennsylvania town has taken an unorthodox approach to slowing down speeding drivers – by putting squiggly lines on the road.
The small community of Montgomery Township had grown tired of speeding motorists.
Grays Lane became the setting of a remarkable approach to tackle cars hurtling down the road.
Only time will tell whether this new design makes an impact.

What one Pennsylvania town did to tackle speeding
As much as we love cars, speeding can be a serious problem.
It’s illegal and can prove to be very costly to drivers, when they end up getting their cars ticketed or impounded – as happened with this Bugatti Chiron.
According to the National Safety Council, exceeding the speed limit was a factor in 29 percent of all American traffic fatalities in 2022.

This translates to 12,151 deaths in total.
Over the years, we’ve seen different tactics being employed to cut down on such reckless driving.
One man took it upon himself to build some DIY speed bumps on his road.
Meanwhile, Ford introduced new tech that slowed down drivers when they entered new speed zones.
Over in Montgomery Township in Pennsylvania, a different approach was taken.
The road lines were drawn in squiggly fashion, rather than the traditional straight design.

This means that anybody driving down the road would take extra care to stay within the lines and thus, slow down.
The township noted that delineators will be going up too, so drivers will have to stick by the new road design.
It’s hoped that Grays Lane will no longer be seen as a shortcut for speed demons, and that drivers taking this route will drive at a safe speed.
Big problems require creative solutions sometimes
Local TV station 6abc Philadelphia spoke to drivers who took a drive on Grays Lane.
One said: “I thought it was an April Fools joke. It’s bizarrely nutty.”

“I was very confused,” another admitted.
There were residents in support of the measure.
One man told the station: “Traffic comes way too fast, with all the school crossings and people walking and animals crossing, it’s always very dangerous.”
There are tons of issues that come up for drivers whilst out on the road.
Fortunately, new solutions are coming out constantly.

For example, over in China, lasers are being rolled out on the highways to prevent drivers falling asleep behind the wheel.
Utah also made use of laser beams to make their roads safer.
Road safety is a top priority and everyone plays their part in upholding that, regardless of whether laser beams or squiggly lines have been deployed.
