Porsche is sending mixed signals about the Macan EV SUV and its new line-up of SUVs.
The company said the Macan will remain electric, but there will be a new SUV.
The new car will also use internal combustion, but it won’t be here before 2030.
With that in mind, we can think of two alternative scenarios.

What if the new Porsche SUV is just the upcoming K1?
In 2022, Porsche announced it was working on a new SUV only known by the codename ‘K1’.
The new SUV will be bigger and more expensive than the Cayenne. It’ll be the largest SUV Porsche has ever made, designed to compete with the equivalent Mercedes SUV.
The German manufacturer, though, didn’t go into specifics, so the K1 could be available as an EV and a hybrid.
The potential issue we see is the new K1 will no doubt be very expensive. Which is a shame as one of the main drivers of the Macan’s success was its relatively affordable price compared to other Porsche vehicles.
There could be a twin version of the Macan

The other option, which is probably a bit more likely, is that Porsche will simply launch a ‘twin’ model slotted in the same category as the Macan.
It might have a different name, but it’ll more or less match the Macan EV in size and performance.
Porsche said the launch can be expected in 2030, partly because, maybe, the automaker is just trying to buy time.
Like so many other legacy automakers, Porsche has done a 180 on electric propulsion more than once, mainly due to what happened with the Taycan.

Taycan beat several records, and even set up some new ones.
It was the first electric car to star in a climactic Hollywood car chase in Den of Thieves 2, and it set different records around the Nürburgring track.
But that vehicle has a problem now: it depreciates too quickly.
EVs are still, at least for now, generally more expensive to build and less profitable, which means companies usually either lose money on them, or price them way too high.
Maybe that’ll change in the future but, for now, that’s part of the reason why Porsche’s plan for the new SUV seems a bit… vague.
