A pickup truck and two muscle cars drive to a drag racing strip — can you guess which one wins? Well, a Ram 1500 TRX just dominated two extremely capable ‘Stangs — a Shelby GT500 and a 1965 Mustang at Island Dragway in New Jersey.
Although all three vehicles were far from their stock configurations, the results were undoubtedly exciting.
The Ram took turns with each Mustang and showed them both their places.
But exactly how powerful was the pickup against these muscle cars?

Ram 1500 TRX vs. Shelby GT500 and custom ’65 Mustang
A YouTube channel called ImportRace posted a video of this shiny blue Ram 1500 TRX racing against two Mustangs at Island Dragway in Great Meadows, New Jersey.
This was the location where a 2024 Mustang recently went against a Tesla Model Y.
For the first race, an early 2010s Shelby GT500 powered by a 5.8-liter V8 went against the pickup.
While we don’t know what modifications were done to any of these, we do know that the TRX can pull off a quarter-mile time of 12.9 seconds at 108mph on its stock configuration.
At least these were only performance mods, unlike Shaq’s ‘apocalypse’ Ram 1500 TRX.
At the end of the first race, it completed the run in 11.07 seconds at 127.1mph.
Meanwhile, the Mustang Shelby GT500 took 12 seconds to cross the quarter-mile mark at 122.76mph.
As Autoevolution noted, this Shelby had a different set of tires — but even if it had the stock set, it couldn’t beat the modified pickup truck.
Further, it was time for the 1965 Mustang with a swapped engine to prove its mettle.
Things ended in a similar way
From what was visible in the video, this machine had a Boss 302’s 5.0-liter V8 engine.
Since we have no idea about this specific Mustang’s spec, it could produce anywhere between 400-450 horsepower.
When it finally raced the Ram 1500 TRX, it only managed to reach the finish line in 11.59 seconds, while the Ram beat its previous best by finishing in 10.44 seconds.
As interesting of a watch as it was, the fact that all of these are extremely capable cars remains true.
The ’65 Mustang — swapped engine or not — is an icon, and even Jay Leno prefers it till date.
On the other hand, the Shelby GT500 might not be available today, but it still remains one of the most memorable ‘Stangs ever.
Well, at least if it’s not abandoned and collecting dust and parking tickets like this one, at least.
