Celebrity mansions for sale: Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea sells $9.8m LA mansion

LA is home to some of the most extravagant and outright insane houses, so when celebrity mansions go up for sale it’s always fun to check out.

And this Tujunga compound certainly fits the bill.

Owned by Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Michael ‘Flea’ Balzary, this Tujunga estate is now up for sale for an eye-watering $9.8 million.

Flea originally purchased the house from contemporary artists Lari Pittman and Roy Dowell for $5.5 million just 4 years ago.

Since then, he’s added an 875 square foot extension, a pool and a cabin – and the opulence is staggering.

The compound, which is just 20 minutes’ drive from downtown LA, features two primary residences.

The first is a seven-sided main house designed by LA-based architect Michael Maltzan that features huge amounts of glass.

The second is the original 1950s residence built by modernist architect Richard Neutra for his secretary Dorothy Serulnic and her husband George.

The two houses are reachable via a long driveway and are set in what’s described as “an extraordinary 5.7 acre curated succulent garden” with views of the Los Angeles skyline.

The 2 bedroom, 1,350 square foot original house is described as having “a plethora of Neutra designed built-ins” which include “a sofa system with a record player and concealed speakers, multiple desks, shelving systems, dining room table, sliding breakfast nook and vanity.”

It would undoubtedly make a really cool guest house to rent out as an investment property or house friends and family when they visit.

This is a serious entertainer’s house too.

One of the main outdoor features is a movie pavilion with a widescreen and a catering kitchen.

There’s also a huge 50 feet long Johnston Vidal outdoor lap pool to cool off during a long day in the California summer.

What a catch for anyone who wants a quiet, modern residence close to downtown LA and the Angeles National Forest.

Anyone, that is, who has $10 million to spare…

We doubt Flea will miss it as he just splashed $14 million on a Beverly Hills compound formerly owned by Paramount chief Adam Goodman.
