The Shah of Iran’s car is up for sale on eBay

A YouTuber is selling the Shah of Iran’s car on eBay and it’s a beauty.

The car – a 1977 Chrysler Imperial – is a stunning car but it’s also got some really cool details.

How the Shah of Iran’s car ended up in a field

Sam Hard, host of YouTube channel Hard Up Garage, is selling the car on eBay.

He came to buy the car after it had been left in a field with other rare finds – including Snoop Dogg’s Cadillac.

But before that, the car had quite the life – first in Iran and then as a museum piece.

Speaking to Supercar Blondie, Hard said: “There used to be a gentleman who used to own a museum called London Motor Museum, and it was basically every car head’s dream location, from everything from Ferraris to Dodge Charger Daytonas to motorbikes, historic Formula 1 cars, absolutely everything. 

“And in the corner of that museum was the Shah of Iran’s car. 

“The story goes, which the museum owner told me, [the Shah’s] family escaped the Iranian revolution in this car in 1979.”

The Shah had ruled in the Middle Eastern country from 1941 to 1979, but the Islamic Revolution sent him and his family fleeing when Ayatollah Khomeini came to power.

When the museum owner moved to Miami, Florida, most of his cars went into storage.

Hard came across one in a field and knew he had to buy it – for just $6,424 (£5,000).

Fortunately, the field was owned by a careful man, and thus, the cars were kept in good condition – unlike these cars left in a Japanese rice field.

Sam actually purchased the Chrysler for a sentimental reason, as his dad owned a similar car.

Hard said: “When I was growing up, my dad had a 1977 Chrysler New Yorker, which was exactly the same car.

“The Chrysler New Yorker was like the base model, let’s just sort of say like your Ford Fiesta, and then the Chrysler Imperial is like the Rolls-Royce of the version.

“It’s like the Lexus of Toyota, shall we say.

“I bought the car mainly for the sentimental reasons of knowing that my dad used to have one of these growing up.”

Everything you’d need when fleeing a country

The Chrysler is an impressive car, particularly for its time.

It’s decked out to ensure the safety of its passengers – the grill is covered by bulletproof vents to ensure the radiator can’t be damaged, and the tires are also bulletproof.

The car has an oxygen system which ensures that clean air is always flowing through the interior, in case it drives through fire.

There’s also a phone in the back of the car for any emergency calls.

Hard said: “It’s got a full leather interior. It’s got aluminium panels all around the engine to obviously deflect bullets.

“It’s got ram raiders on at the front and the rear bumper. 

“It’s got massive four-and-a-half-inch steel girders behind the bumpers.

“Instead of having crumple zones like a normal car, that when you hit something it collapses, on this car it’s got full-on steel chassis-connected bars that will allow you to use the car as a ramming tool, basically.”
