A couple of guys have managed to turn a floral Ikea sofa into a fully-drivable vehicle – and it looks very cozy.

Sharing the project on YouTube, the duo detailed how they painstakingly transformed the sofa into a motorized vehicle that works similarly to a go-kart. I don’t know about you guys, but I really need one in my life.

In the video, the men purchase a boldly patterned sofa from Ikea and hollow it out. With that done, it’s time to work on getting it mobile, which they do by building a metal frame chassis, adding some wheels, and popping in a Briggs & Stratton 9-horsepower engine.

Describing the build, the pair explained that it was essential to ensure the rear axle is shorter than the front axle since this makes the sofa easier to turn due to the lack of a differential drive. To steer, it’s a simple case of moving the steering lever left or right, while throttle and braking are done via two handles.

With the couch car assembled, the two inventors, sharing via Mekdev, take it out for a spin. Incredible stuff – I reckon if they mass-produced these they’d have a nice little earner. And if unusual custom furniture builds are your thing, then check out this guy who invented a ‘car bed’.
