Why is Mercedes-Benz called Mercedes-Benz?
Mercedes-Benz was founded in Germany almost 100 years ago in 1926, although its origins date back even further to 1886.
The Mercedes-Benz name is made up from the names of two people: Mercedes Jellinek and Karl Benz.
The former was the daughter of the racing enthusiast Emil Jellinek, while the latter was an engine designer and automotive engineer.

What year did Mercedes-Benz start making cars?
The Benz Patent-Motorwagen, which is regarded as the first modern automobile, was designed and built by Karl Benz in 1885 – a few years before Mercedes-Benz was officially founded.
The first official car from Mercedes-Benz was the Mercedes 35 HP, which began the Mercedes line of cars.
Where are Mercedes-Benz built?
As mentioned above, Mercedes was founded in Germany and it still makes its cars there, but it also has operations in several other countries, including the UK, USA, China, India, and Mexico – so all over, really.
How many Mercedes-Benz cars are built per year?
It will probably come as no surprise to learn that Mercedes makes a lot of cars – and we do mean a lot.
In fact, the marque is the world’s largest premium vehicle brand and makes around 2.4 million vehicles a year.
See? We told you it was a lot.
What notable car models does Mercedes-Benz make?
With a history as long as varied as Mercedes, there are almost too many notable motors to mention.
But its Mercedes-AMG G-Class – aka the G-Wagen – remains a popular choice with the world’s rich and famous; while the Mercedes-AMG ONE is enough to get even the most hard to please gearheads excited.
Which is the most expensive Mercedes-Benz?

A Mercedes-Benz vehicle actually holds the title for the most expensive car to ever be sold.
A 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé was auctioned off in 2022 for an eye-watering €135 million (around $142 million).
Outside of auction rooms, the Mercedes-Benz AMG ONE hypercar comes with a price tag of $2.75 million.
The hypercar had a limited run of just 275 units and all have sold – sorry, if you were hoping to get your hands on one.
Which is the cheapest Mercedes-Benz?
If you fancy having a Mercedes in your driveway but your budget doesn’t quite stretch to the millions, then you can get your hands on a Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 4MATIC SUV for around $43,000 or a Mercedes CLA 250 Sedan for $45,550.
What is the fastest Mercedes-Benz?
When it comes to speed, the AMG family of Mercedes vehicles are the top performers.

The 2025 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance can do 0-60mph in just 2.7 seconds, making it the fastest Mercedes out there, closely followed by the 2022 Mercedes AMG One Hybrid that clocks a 0-60mph time of 2.9 seconds.
Which Mercedes-Benz concept car should you know about?
The Mercedes Vision AVTR is one of the coolest concept cars out there.
The truly one-of-a-kind motor looks like it has just been dropped on Earth from an alien planet and it’s packed full of neat, futuristic features.
