In the past few years, the Ford F-150 has undoubtedly become America’s favorite pickup truck, but what happens when it competes with its electrified archrival, the Tesla Cybertruck, in a head-to-head towing competition?

Well, fear not because someone actually tested the two pickup trucks’ limits, and the results surprised everyone.

Note that this was a torture test simulating real-life conditions, but your mileage may still vary — quite literally.

So, who was the winner?

Tesla Cybertruck vs. Ford F-150

Hosts from the YouTube channel The Fast Lane Truck held a towing challenge between the Ford F-150 Tremor and the Tesla Cybertruck.

They also posted the entire thing in a video that showed how the two pickups fared on an uphill climb.

Before we get to who performed better, there are a few things to know about this stress test.

First off, it was held under scorching summer conditions, and both trucks had to tow uphill.

This test was obviously meant to push both trucks to their limits, which is why the cargo was at its maximum towing capacity of 10,500 lbs.

Now, the Cybertruck actually has a rated towing capacity of 11,000lbs — but it wasn’t that far off.

With its 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost engine, the Ford F-150 Tremor comes with 410 horsepower.

Meanwhile, the Tesla Cybertruck and its three electric motors are capable of 600 horsepower.

So, what happened during the ultimate towing test?

One contender overheated

During their 3,000-foot climb, the Ford F-150 Tremor started having issues at the eight-mile mark.

Its engine temperatures spiked up, and the coolant temps also eventually rose above 240°F with several warnings on the instrument cluster inside.

It further struggled and was stuck in second gear for quite some time.

All this time, the Tesla’s climb was practically a cakewalk, as its electric powertrain helped.

The YouTubers had a clear winner at hand, but that, too, came with a caveat.

Although the Cybertruck aced the towing test, its range dropped by a whopping 50%.

Towing nearly at its maximum rated capacity is certainly bound to take a hit on the range, but dropping to half the range can be concerning.

All in all, this test seems ironic in contrast to the fact that one time, a Ford pickup had to tow a Cybertruck to safety.
