A thrust-propelled Pontiac Fiero was found on Facebook Marketplace in Iowa and we’re here for it.

This 1984 GT was listed in Prairie City and was going for $75,000.

The car’s owner, who claimed he was forced to sell it, had previously tried to set a land speed record in the Pontiac.

You may think this car is purely a speed demon, but could it make a rather unconventional daily driver for somebody?

The things you’ll find on Facebook Marketplace

There are a ton of weird and wonderful cars on Facebook Marketplace.

Over the years, we’ve seen a ton of them – some leaning more towards weird than wonderful.

We’ve seen a GMC Sierra with gull-wing doors, a fake Lamborghini Diablo, and a Ford Thunderbird engulfed in flames.

By those standards, the Pontiac looked relatively mundane.

Admittedly, the low price might catch people off guard.

$75k is a pretty good deal for a 40-year-old sports car, which is double the age a car needs to be to be considered ‘classic’.

What explained this price?

The car wasn’t in bad shape, so you couldn’t write it off as a salvage auction type buy, like this $4,000 Dodge Ram.

The cheap price of the Fiero was down to one internal modification.

Taking a closer look at this 1984 Pontiac Fiero from Iowa

The seller disclosed that the factory powertrain had been replaced by a GE T-58 helicopter turbine.

That’s right, this car is powered by something usually found in a helicopter.

Whilst the word ‘thrust’ gives you visions of a speed demon – and this car is undoubtedly fast – that’s not all this is.

The seller made clear in the listing that the car can corner, making use of thrust vectoring.

Thrust vectoring is essentially the ability of an aircraft or any other vehicle to manipulate the direction of thrust from its engine to ‘control the attitude or angular velocity of the vehicle’.

It was features like this that likely motivated the owner to try and break land speed records in the car.

The specific record would be for a thrust vehicle on a one mile oval speedway.

As you might expect, this isn’t something that has been attempted much before.

The lister said that a record doesn’t even currently exist.

While the Fiero is cool and all, we wouldn’t say this is a purchase for a novice.

You are dealing with a car that has a helicopter engine after all.
