This YouTuber built himself a jet-powered car, but unfortunately, he forgot to add brakes.

Jake Carlini was feeling bored with the slow pace of his life and decided he wanted to ‘go fast’.

And what better solution is there than a jet powered car?

It was either going to be a lot of fun, or go horribly wrong, but there was only one way to find out.

How this YouTuber built a jet powered car

Carlini first had to choose what material he would use and was faced with three options – wood, metal and PVC.

Because he needed a lightweight frame, PVC was ruled out from the get-go.

The amount of wood needed to make a sturdy frame would outweigh the metal, so in the end, metal was chosen.

Acquiring tires was no big deal, as he had plenty of them on hand in the garage.

The front wheels came from his own bike.

This isn’t the first time a bike has been incorporated into a car – just take a look at this Engler V12 Superquad for example.

After drilling holes into the metal, Carlini began putting the frame together, building upon the bike wheels.

For the chair, he harvested the seat off an exercise bike.

Carlini opted to go for foot steering to avoid making the vehicle too heavy.

Even though he admitted it wouldn’t be the best for the project’s speed, it was the best he could do on a ‘low weight budget’.

How did he forget to put the brakes in?

When it came time to give his car a test run, Carlini realized he’d forgotten a fairly crucial detail.

And this wasn’t an itsy bitsy part either, like an air freshener or a charging port.

He’d forgotten brakes.

Not ideal when the site for his test drive was a road that was sloping downwards.

‘This is going a little too fast!’ Carlini yelled, as he picked up speed, ‘why don’t I ever put brakes on these things?!’

It was hard to tell if he was more scared than he was excited.

But either way, brakes were needed for safety’s sake.

He got the brakes off another bike and installed them into the car – though to be fair, this is more bike than car at this point.

Six leaf blowers were acquired to propel the vehicle into action.

So how did it fare when it finally took the road?

It whizzed by, even though Carlini admitted he didn’t have an exact speed.

In fact, it went a little too fast, as it spun over at one point – but thankfully not so ferociously that the driver was injured.

All in all, we think you can chalk that up as a success.

At any rate, the brakes went down better than the Audi UFO brakes did.
