This watch collection from Fossil looks like it’s made out of stone

Fossil and Staple have just launched a new collection inspired by the sundial.

They’re super quirky and almost look like they’re made out of stone.

There’s a super interesting backstory to them too.

Fossil and Staple are both American brands but they operate in slightly different sectors of the fashion industry because Fossil primarily makes watches while Staple is a streetwear brand.

When it comes to this watch, Fossil came up with the idea, and Staple made it modern and ‘street-worthy’ with a splash of colors and of course the iconic Staple pigeon logo.

So where does the inspiration for the shape come from?

Well, a few years ago, Fossil launched a weird timepiece called Meridiana.

Meridiana is Italian for ‘sundial’ and that’s exactly what the watch was: a sundial.

It had no hands, no dial and no bezel. The case only consisted of a piece of stainless steel with a ‘rocky’ effect, carved to look like a sundial.

It was obviously a bit useless as a timekeeper, especially in the dark, but it looked quite cool.

Check out the Fossil Staple watch collection!

This new version is different because when you lift the sundial cover, you’ll find an actual dial with the traditional three hands for minutes, hours and seconds.

You can also use the dial to display a secret hologram dial of a pigeon and the Staple logo is also printed on the see-through caseback.

Having said that, this is 2022 so of course NFTs have been incorporated.

Staple recently launched something called the Stapleverse, which is a web 3.0-friendly marketplace as well as community for fans of the brand.

The company created an NFT, giving owners the opportunity to receive a watch along with the NFT.

The watch retails for $280 and the best part? It comes with an amazing egg-shaped box.
