The Dodge Viper is the darling of American sports cars and these creators wanted to find out exactly which model was best.

Before Dodge turned its attention to bigger and bolder muscle cars, there were several generations of the Viper.

To this day, the Viper remains one of the best sports cars to ever leave production lines in America.

Now, in a bid to find out which Viper was the greatest, these American creators gathered six of Dodge’s finest and rated them in order of best to worst.

American car experts rank every Dodge Viper

The Dodge Viper is so well-loved that many people have created epic projects with it, even transforming the car into a serious off-roader.

Others have custom-made new and modern Vipers begging for the series to be revived.

Now, all six generations (yes, six) of the Dodge Viper have been brought together by the YouTube creators at Donut.

The two creators, Nolan Sykes and Jeremiah Burton, reviewed the five main installments and the bonus RAM SRT-10.

“It’s almost impossible to talk about Vipers without mentioning this,” they said.

First up was the 1991 SR1.

Dodge’s first ‘cool’ sports car was built on an incredibly low budget, and while the company achieved a lot with this car, its cheap manufacturing came at a cost.

The lack of traction control, AC, and a roof, limited the first car drastically.

Still, its incredible sales meant that the series continued, even if this was the worst in the lineup.

As for the second generation, it was easy to rank it above its predecessor.

The third generation (SRT-10), however, didn’t follow the pattern.

The refigured Viper took a more mechanical approach which wavered from the core look and experience of the previous two.

The American YouTubers ranked it in between the first and second generation.

Generation 4 ACR put Viper back in the driver’s seat for sports cars, disregarding the backward steps of the SRT-10 duo and improving on the first two models.

With a more refined V10 engine, improvements in handling, and an aggressive new look, this Viper was destined to be one for the ages.

Which is the best Viper?

Of course, the best Viper in the rankings was the latest and fifth generation.

Even if the sales didn’t reflect, this car was a beautiful creation with frightening speeds for its $120k MSRP.

Donut’s Viper rankings ended as:

  1. Generation 5
  2. Generation 4 ACR
  3. Generation 2
  4. SRT-10
  5. Generation 1
  6. (Bonus) Ram SRT-10

The Viper was sadly sunsetted in 2017 having faced serious competition from the likes of the Ford Mustang Shelby GT.

But, the lineup still highlights some of the finest hours in American car manufacturing, topped off with the cherry on the cake that is the fifth-gen Viper.

“Don’t be sad that the Viper is over, be happy that it happened at all,” the guys said.
