A Florida truck driver has miraculously escaped without injury after two 5-tonne metal poles went flying through his cab.

The semi-truck driver said he was driving in Tampa, Florida when a car pulled out in front of him on the highway and cut him off.

The 33-year-old says he was forced to slam on his brakes, causing the two metal poles to break free from their tie-downs and smash through his rear cabin window.

The two poles not only broke his rear cabin window, but the force sent them flying through the front window too, completely piercing the truck’s cabin.

Photos taken at the scene show the two poles running directly through the center of the cabin, so it’s a miracle the driver managed to avoid getting injured.

The semi-truck was carrying another four 5-tonne metal poles on its trailer but fortunately, they all remained tied down and in place.

The trucker said the driver of the car that pulled out in front of him, allegedly causing the incident, continued on their journey either unfazed or unaware of the chaos they left in their wake.

When police arrived at the scene, they noticed 85-foot-long skid marks on the road from where the trucker had slammed on his brakes.

Police have described the car as a ‘phantom vehicle’ as it allegedly caused the incident on Interstate 275 but was not hit and fled the scene.

When the incident was posted to Twitter, people were unsurprisingly shocked.

While some found it hard to believe the driver of the car wouldn’t stop, others argued there should have been better prevention to avoid the poles from breaking loose and smashing through the cab.

“Trucks hauling long cargo such as steel pipe, concrete poles, need a ‘headache rack’ in order to transport such cargo that can ram forward to pierce the tractor cab,” one man said.

We’re just thankful the trucker walked away unharmed.
