See inside new Maserati GranCabrio Folgore, the world’s first luxury electric convertible

The curtain has been lifted on the world’s first luxury electric convertible – the new Maserati GranCabrio Folgore.

And it’s every inch of what you’d expect from the Italian automaker, its sumptuous interior a blend of rich materials and desirable tech.

And being a soft top, it’s reassuring to know that it quickly folds at speeds of up to 31 mph (50 km/h) and is designed to stow in the most compact way to preserve trunk space.

It wasn’t that long ago that the Maserati GranCabrio Trofeo made its debut, but all eyes are on the all-electric version.

Leather is on the menu for the Maserati GranCabrio Folgore, however, the luxury electric convertible comes standard with a silky-feeling upholstery made from Econyl, a synthetic fiber created from nylon.

The seats also feature laser-etched perforations that create an eye-catching design.

And, if you fancy a top-down cruise under the stars, Maserati has included neck warmers in the two front seats to ward off chills.

Speaking of which, the front seats offer 18-way adjustability, so there’s plenty of scope to get comfy on said top-down cruise.

The steering wheel, wrapped in leather, features brushed aluminum paddle shifters, in addition to a start-stop button on its left spoke.

The infotainment touchscreen, measuring 12.3 inches, and separate touch-controlled climate functions, come as standard, as does a 12.2-inch digital gauge cluster.

Add to the list of standard features wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a head-up display, and a 16-speaker Sonus Faber sound system, and there’s very little more you could ask for.

Unless you want to upgrade to a 19-speaker Sonus Faber sound system, that is.

Now we’ve covered what’s on the inside of the Maserati GranCabrio Folgore, now it’s time to talk about what’s under the hood.

The Folgore – Italian for lightning – swaps its combustion-engined sibling’s twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 for three electric motors.

One is mounted to the front axle, with the other two at the rear, each supporting up to 300 kilowatts of power, meaning a theoretical peak output of 900 kW (1,207 horsepower).

That being said, the battery can’t provide this amount of power, not even in a short burst.

According to Maserati, peak output is 610 kW (818 hp) in ‘MaxBoost’ most, while in standard operation, 751 hp is available.

With 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) claimed to be over and done within 2.8 seconds, there seems little question that you’re looking at one of the outright quickest convertibles yet made.

In other Maserati-related news, a rare Maserati, of which there were less than 1,000 ever made, was miraculously found in a junkyard.
