Rivian R1T miraculously pulls truck way heavier than its tow rating out a ditch

When it comes to towing, the Rivian R1T is full of surprises.

Rivian boss RJ Scaringe shared a video to social media showing one of the pickups coming to the rescue of an industrial truck that was stuck in a ditch.

Let’s just say, it’s nothing short of miraculous that the R1T was able to pull it out.

The Rivian R1T in action

In the clip, which appears to take place on a construction site, the R1T is shown pulling a trailer up out of a ditch.

After a few tugs on the tow strap, the truck begins to move backward with little issue.

Despite the road being dusty, there’s virtually no tire slip.

The R1T has a towing capacity of 11,000 pounds (4,990kg).

For reference, a school bus weighs around 14,000 pounds and the average SUV weighs around 7,000 pounds.

It’s hard to say for certain how heavy the trailer in the video is, but it’s definitely exceeding the R1T’s capacity.

Regardless, it gave Scaringe bragging rights and looked impressive visually.

Rivian R1Ts – the ultimate rescue vehicle?

This isn’t the first time that a R1T has wowed people with its impressive hauling strength.

One R1T driver shared footage of himself recovering a 38,000-pound semi and trailer, which had skidded off the road in icy conditions.

Myles Fowler, the owner of the car, gushed: “The torque of the R1T is something else.”

Rivian R1Ts are great cars in many ways, with many hidden Easter Eggs dotted all over them.

As shown by Supercar Blondie’s Domi, the vehicle has Rivian logos all over it.

There’s also a compartment just behind the door which can fit a human inside.

Domi should know as she tried it herself.

An R1T can be opened in four ways – a regular key, the Rivian app, a hotel-style card key, and a Rivian bracelet.
