Tesla ‘basically finished’ delivering Cybertrucks to its wait list – and it did it under a year

It seems as though the Tesla Cybertruck initial reservation list has been exhausted, less than a year after the EV began rolling off production lines. 

The Cybertruck was unveiled back in 2019 with initial plans to produce the vehicle in the latter part of 2021.  

However, it was hit with numerous delays that meant the first deliveries of Cybertrucks didn’t happen until November 2023. 

Reservations for the Tesla Cybertruck opened up in 2019 when the vehicle was still just a concept.

The Tesla Cybertruck had a waitlist of more than a million

The reservations were secured with a $100 refundable deposit. 

And it’s fair to say that they flew in, with a staggering amount of the reservation holders never having seen the pickup in the flesh.

In a post on Twitter, Tesla boss Elon Musk said there had been 146,000 reservations in just one-and-a-half days. 

This number jumped to 250,000 a couple of days later. 

By the time the truck rolled off production lines, Tesla reportedly had more than a million – and possibly almost two million – reservations. 

It had previously been rumored that US buyers could be waiting up to five years to get their hands on a Cybertruck.

But it seems as though Tesla may have got to the end of that list, according to new buyers who claim to have been told they can pick up a Cybertuck almost immediately – provided you have a spare $81,895 of course. 

Posting on the Cybertruck Owners Forum those with reservations have said they got their truck sooner than expected.

New buyers pointed out they have been offered both a Foundation and non-Foundation Series Cybertruck.

“I say confirmed because [Tesla is] now inviting someone like me, who reserved eight months after launch/first customer deliveries, to order and take delivery of a regular (non-Foundation) Cybertruck within 60 days,” one forum user wrote.

“Unless I am some special case (not), all the people on the reservation waiting list of ‘over 1 million’ or ‘almost 2 million’ (depending on who was speaking) that were there [in] Nov. 2023 have been invited for both Foundation and non-Foundation Series. And they are past that group and onto people like me who ordered only a few months ago.”

Someone else suggested that the number of conversions from reservation list to actually deciding to buy the truck ‘appears to be pretty low right now’.

They speculated that the EV’s change of price point – it was initially announced that it would cost $39,900 – could be to blame.

Someone else said being offered the Tesla Cybertruck so soon had caught them off-guard.

“Very torn as I didn’t think I would even have to consider this for at least a year,” they wrote.

Over on X, user Sawyer Merritt urged people to ‘check your Tesla accounts/reservations’. 

“Sounds like a lot of US-based Cybertruck reservation holders just got invited to order non-foundation Cybertrucks,” he wrote. “Even some who pre-ordered in 2023.”
