Somebody finally answered the question everyone was asking by putting a Xiaomi SU7 Ultra and a Tesla Model S Plaid together in a drag race.
These are two of the fastest EVs in the world and they have a lot in common
They’re both family sedans, and they both do 0-60 in less than 2 seconds.
But there could only be one winner.

How the drag race between the Xiaomi SU7 and the Tesla Model S went
The TESLA Geek YouTube channel published a video of a drag race between the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra and the Tesla Model S Plaid.
Both cars put out well over 1,000 horsepower, both do 0-60 in less than 2 seconds and both cost less than $100,000.
But that’s where the similarities end, and that’s why the result can be interpreted in two separate ways.
In the drag race, the Model S Plaid accelerated off the line faster than the Xiaomi, but the Xiaomi quickly caught up and then easily beat the Model S Plaid.
There are two ways to look at this, and that depends on whether we focus on the price or the engine.
If we focused on the price, we’d call this a good result for Xiaomi, because the SU7 Ultra costs $73,000, while the Model S Plaid costs a whopping $94,900.
However, if we focused on the engine, some would call this result predictable because the SU7 Ultra puts out 1,526, whereas the Model S Plaid ‘only’ produces 1,020 horsepower.
Why EVs are always faster in a drag race
If there’s one thing that EVs can do it’s generate an enormous amount of torque off the line.
Some of these vehicles have enough torque to cancel out all the extra weight they carry in the form of a battery.
The Cybertruck Cyberbeast, for example, is capable of beating anything in a quarter-mile drag race despite weighing over three tons.
The record-breaking Cyberbeast has so far managed to beat a Porsche 911, a Lamborghini Aventador, and even other EVs, such as the GMC Hummer EV.
In the future, it’s going to be increasingly difficult for gas cars to keep up when it comes to sheer acceleration.
