G-Shock is on a roll with collaborations right now, but the latest collab might have possibly created the most suitable partnership ever.

That’s because they have teamed up with Toyota.

When you think of G-Shock, you automatically think of a tough durable, go-anywhere-and-do-anything watch.

And that – many people might argue – is exactly the sort of description you could use for Toyota trucks as well.

Over the years, we’ve seen Toyota trucks survive just about anything.

From massive sandbanks in the desert to steep inclines even a spider would struggle with, it seems Toyotas are unkillable.

And that’s the reason why G-Shocks were created in the first place.

Their story is pretty well-known by this point.

Back in 1983, Casio engineer Kikuo Ibe accidentally dropped his father’s timepiece and when the watch broke, he decided right then and there he wanted to create watches that don’t break when you drop them.

Or if you run them over with a truck for that matter which – believe it or not – is actually a test some G-Shocks have to go through.

Around 200 (!) prototypes later, Ibe had created the first G-Shock, a tough watch with 10 layers of protection that simply won’t break.

The same goes for the Toyota Land Cruiser which provided the inspiration for the watch.

Specifically, the watch draws inspiration from the Land Cruiser that won the Dakar Rally 11 times in a row.

Based on the G-Shock Mudman, this G-Shock Team Land Cruiser is solar-powered, has a 10-year battery, and is water resistant to 200 meters.

It can survive falls from a 3-story building due to its carbon core construction, which is essentially carbon-reinforced plastic.

The only problem is it isn’t exactly cheap, coming in at $440.

Still, at least you know you won’t have to buy another watch, right?
