This hydrogen-powered Hyundai concept is the DeLorean tribute we always wanted

Hyundai has just unveiled two super cool prototypes and one of them looks a lot like a retro-futuristic Pony Car from the 70s.

It also gives us strong DeLorean vibes, one of the most iconic vehicles in the history of cars.

There’s a good reason for that too.

Hyundai said its N Vision 74 was a tribute to the original Pony Car, an old model they first launched in 1974.

That car was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the Italian designer who also penned the DeLorean.

CHECK THIS OUT!

This being a modern car, it has larger wheels, larger brakes and some of the angles are a bit smoother.

The Hyundai concept combines the muscular shapes of an old-school pony car with the sleek, edge-cutting angles of a modern coupe.

The ‘engine’ is a hydrogen fuel cell unit connected to two electric motors for a combined power output of 671 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque, giving it a top speed of 155 mph.

The range is 373 miles and because it’s powered by hydrogen, filling up the ‘tank’ takes minutes, not hours.

Unfortunately, there’s bad news because Hyundai’s top execs said these concepts are usually designed to pave the way for ‘strategic developments’.

In plain English, this means that the Vision 74 is just a way for the company to showcase what it can do without actually making it a reality.

There’s still a chance that the automaker will eventually decide to use some certain features and elements to build production vehicles in the future.

After all, Hyundai is trying harder than most to make ‘green’ cars interesting and good-looking.

The Ioniq 5 is arguably one of the most intriguing electric family cars out there, and the all-new Ioniq 6 uses a streamlined body shape that most automakers totally forgot about.

Maybe we should launch a petition.

Dear Hyundai, please make this happen.
