Jenna Ortega is playing the titular character in the new Netflix show Wednesday and she’s got the internet talking.

It’s a big deal because after all, we’re talking about one of the most popular fictional characters ever created.

Ortega stars as Wednesday Friday Addams, the only daughter in The Addams Family.

Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán play Morticia and Gomez Addams respectively.

In the storyline, which is set in the present day, Wednesday is a gothic teenager with superpowers.

Since she can’t seem to adapt to ‘normal life’, she’s sent to the Nevermore Academy, a school for people with powers and outcasts.

The new series was created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the showrunners and screenwriters that gave us Smallville.

It consists of eight episodes and four of them were directed by none other than Tim Burton.

As you can imagine, fans are going insane on Twitter.

Mostly because they seem to love the show.

One commenter resorted to, err, ‘French’ to express their excitement.

AB / Wednesday Spoilers simply tweeted: “Jenna Ortega killed the f**k out of this role”.

Straight to the point, right?

Another user named Susie said: “we are witnessing the rise of a real Hollywood star, Miss Jenna Ortega”.

Jenna Ortega herself took to her Twitter account after the premiere to share a heartfelt message about the show.

She said: “Wednesday is out. Thank you to everyone involved. I hope the show is an easy, entertaining watch if you’re up for it.”

She also encouraged fans to talk about it.

“If you do watch, argue with people about it,” she said.

“You all are going to be arguing tomorrow anyway”.
