This is the Maybach Exelero, a rare supercar some people may have never heard of.

And in this instance the word ‘rare’ just doesn’t cut it, because there’s only one in existence.

When Daimler turned Maybach into a standalone brand, they tried experimenting with different ideas.

In 2005, Maybach designers and engineers decided to create something unique and called Chrysler for a collaboration.

Their brainchild was the Exelero.

Believe it or not, it was loosely based on the Maybach 57 sedan and built on the same platform, and it was designed as a testbed for a new type of tyre.

Fulda, a tire manufacturer that’s part of the Goodyear family, wanted to build a special type of tire that could support really heavy and fast cars, and that’s why the Exelero was created.

And it fits the bill, because it is indeed very powerful, and very heavy.

The engine that powers it is a 5.9-liter twin-turbo V12 that puts out 700 horsepower.

It tips the scales at 5,860+ lbs (2,660 kg) and yet, it is still capable of reaching a top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph).

There’s been a lot of rumors about who the owner of this car is.

In 2006, one year after the unveil, the car was featured in Jay’Z’s video Lost One.

A few years later, in 2011, American rapper Birdman (aka Baby) reportedly purchased the Exelero.

At the time, the car was owned by a private collector, and managed by Mechatronik.

The Maybach Exelero is a rare unicorn and, with a price tag of $8 million, it is an expensive one at that.

And that, by the way, is the price said private collector paid for it, but it’s worth a lot more now.

We can’t confirm if Jay-Z is the private collector in question, but we wouldn’t be surprised.

After all, he and Beyonce own another super rare, ultra-expensive car – the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail.
