The new Lamborghini Urus sets a Pikes Peak record

The new Lamborghini Urus isn’t even out yet, but it has already set a new record at Pikes Peak, beating the previous time by 18 seconds.

With Italian driver Simone Faggioli at the wheel, it finished the famous hill climb in 10:32.064.

While the Urus that beat the record is very similar to the factory model you’ll soon be able to buy, it wasn’t exactly the same.

Lamborghini had to make a couple of changes.

It’s powered by the same standard twin-turbo V8 and uses the same chassis and same brakes.

Apart from the roll cage and the racing seats, the only difference is that the record-setting vehicle was wearing semi-slick Pirelli P Zero tires.

Lamborghini Urus Pikes Peak

Pikes Peak is one of the highest summits of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado.

The 12.4-mile course that automakers use to test their cars features 156 turns and corners.

Let’s be honest: manufacturers love setting lap times at Pikes Peak because it makes them look good.

Speaking of which, the previous Pikes Peak record was set a couple of years ago by the Bentley Bentayga.

So you could say it remains in the family because both Bentley and Lamborghini are part of the large Volkswagen family.

So what about the new Lamborghini Urus?

Lamborghini has kept details under wraps but the launch is scheduled for August 19.

So we don’t have long to wait.

With more than 20,000 units shipped, the Urus is already the best-selling vehicle in Lamborghini’s history.

So, it’s easy to see why the company wants to keep it up-to-date.

Under the hood, it will still have the same 4.0-liter V8 as the current model but it will probably receive a power upgrade.

In addition to that, the interior will be revised and it will be even more tech-friendly.

There will also be minor cosmetic changes to keep it fresh.

What’s the price of the new Lamborghini Urus?

The ‘old’ Lambo Urus starts at $220,000 so we can expect the new one to cost a little more than that.

We’re looking at a $230,000-$240,000 price tag for the entry level model.

According to Lamborghini, more than 50 percent of its customers also add bespoke features with the Ad Personam customization program.

So most Urus models will end up costing $300k or more.

It seems the Italian supercar manufacturer is busy making tough terrain vehicles these days.

Just a few weeks ago, Lamborghini unveiled the Sterrato, an amazing off-roader based on the Huracan.
