But how do sunload sensors detect sunlight?

Sunload sensors detect sunlight using tiny semiconducting diodes called photodiodes.

As the intensity of sunlight increases, so does the resistance of the photodiode.

Thus the air conditioning is adjusted accordingly, preventing you from feeling like you’re baking in an oven on wheels.

Interestingly, sunlight entering a vehicle can contribute to a large part of the interior heat load.
