Ferrari 458 Italia turned into Czech police car

The police force in the Czech Republic has unveiled the latest addition to its fleet – a Ferrari 458 Italia confiscated from criminals.

It’s unclear exactly why the 458 was confiscated, but it’ll be leading a very different life now on the other side of the law.

Getting the stunning supercar ready for the police fleet cost around $12,286 (€12,000).

Police noted this is only around the same price as a Czech-made Skoda hatchback.

However, the 458 itself is still worth close to its original $239,340 price tag.

Painted in a sleek silver, it now wears blue and fluorescent yellow stripes on its sides.

Of course, there are red and blue lights mounted to the roof as well.

Able to scoot from 0-100km/h (0-62mph) in just 3.4 seconds, the 562hp Ferrari’s speed was part of the appeal for the force.

The head of the Czech police traffic department Jiri Zly said in a statement that it will be used against “the most aggressive drivers” on Czech roads.

As such, it will be used for rapidly chasing down stolen cars.

Clamping down on illegal street racing is another thing the force sees it being useful for.

The supercar won’t be driven by just any cops, it’ll be driven by specially trained officers from the special surveillance department of the Czech police.

This 458 isn’t the only car confiscated from criminals that’s being used by police in the Czech Republic, either.

The force says hundreds of its vehicles have been confiscated, and are now used for combatting various forms of serious criminal activity.

The Czech cops’ new Ferrari isn’t even the only Ferrari converted for police use.

In the United Arab Emirates, Dubai’s police force has a Ferrari FF in its ranks among a host of other supercars.
