A teenager has just hooked an unbelievable catch.
Connor Halsa, 14, was fishing with his family on Lake of the Woods when he felt something catch at the end of his line.
“I thought I had a huge fish, so I set the hook really hard,” he said.
When the teenager reeled it in, his cousin netted it and they both looked down.
Inside was no Wahoo.
Instead, the boys looked down to find a billfold of cash.
“My cousin opened the wallet up, and he said some words you probably shouldn’t say, and he showed everyone and we took the money out and let it dry out,” he told WDAY News.
Inside the wallet was nothing to laugh at either.
The boys opened it to find $2,000 in cash.
That story’s pretty great in itself, but it’s what happened next that really makes it incredible.
The boys rummaged inside and actually found a business card.
So, instead of keeping the cash, they called the number and tracked down the wallet’s owner.
That’s where Jim Denney comes in.
The Iowa man was out fishing at Lake of the Woods a year before when he lost the wallet.
“The water was really rough and I was sitting on the back of the boat and it was rocking back and forth, and it worked itself out and slipped off into the water,” he said.
Denney didn’t realize it had fallen out until he got back home that day.
He thought for sure that would be the last he ever saw of it.
Until a year later when he got a call from 14-year-old Connor out of the blue.
It’s pretty remarkable considering the sheer size of Lake of the Woods.
The lake, which lies on the border of Canada and the US, measures more than 100km long and 95km wide.
