This is the Vaiaro, a totally see-thru ferry.
Designed by CAPTN, it’s one of the most futuristic transport concepts ever designed.
It looks cool, but it was designed for a very specific purpose too.
It has been designed to help travelers cross bays and channels at any time of the day or night.
The Vaiaro is electric and also completely autonomous, which means you don’t need a captain or ‘driver’ of any sort.
The main advantage of this is that it could run continuously.
Literally 24 hours every day, 365 days a year.
Idea behind the futuristic transport
It was designed in Germany, in a port town on the Baltic coast called Kiel.
The city itself played a crucial role in the design process because citizens would use the ferry to cross the bay.

The project consists of two separate concepts: the ferry and the ferry terminal.
The ferry is a rectangular glass vessel, characterized by a conspicuous dorsal fin right in the middle of it.
It’s a large open space with bike racks and benches where passengers can sit.
As for the terminal, it looks just as futuristic and it has a similar shape but it is a bit longer, it almost looks like a shoebox.
It is made from metal and features hundreds of tiny glass windows.
What’s more, the ferry terminal isn’t stationary, it is a self-propelled vessel just like the ferry itself.
Even though both were specifically designed for Kiel, they could be used in any other city with a similar landscape.
In London for example, you could use it to connect different points of the Thames.
In New York City, you could use it on the Hudson.
It’s a great idea, and it will be even better if it actually comes to fruition.
