Threads vs Twitter

Meta has officially launched its Twitter killer, Threads.

Yep, the app responsible for the Mark Zuckerberg vs Elon Musk cage fight is finally here and some say it’s the nail in the coffin for Musk’s flailing platform.

But according to Twitter users, that’s not the case. In fact, reactions to the new platform have been pretty hilarious over on the Musk-owned app.

To mark the occasion, Zuckerberg posted to Twitter for the first time in 11 years, appearing to troll Musk.

A lot of people think Threads will be the end of Twitter, especially given the volatility surrounding the app since Musk shelled out US $44 billion for it.

In the latest controversial move, Musk implemented a viewing limit for users.

The limit appeared to be a bid to prompt users to pay for verification subscriptions, but it wasn’t received so well.

In fact, it angered most people.

Even MrBeast weighed in:

“Twitter’s fall won’t be long!” another said.

But not everyone appears to think Threads will be the end of Twitter.

Some users say that since trying the new Meta app, they’re pretty sure it will have little impact.

“Twitter is far better than Threads,” one user said bluntly.

“Threads is cool and all, but I am not leaving Twitter.”

And then there were the memes…

Others who signed up to Threads implied it was too early to tell because barely anyone was on it yet.

One guy pretty accurately summed up the current state of affairs, saying “on Threads, everyone’s talking about the bird app, and on the bird app, everyone’s talking about threads”.

Musk himself also weighed in, subtly replying to one of the memes.

In response to a user claiming Threads was nothing more than a ‘copy-paste’ of Twitter, Musk replied with a laughing emoji, which says it all really.

What is Threads and how does it work?

It’s a new text-based social media app, which is pretty similar (identical) to Twitter actually.

You can @ people, reply, and repost other people’s threads to your feed.

And like Twitter, Threads limits each post to a certain number of characters.

Since its launch today, Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg reported that more than five million users already signed up to the app.

Just seven hours after its launch, that number surpassed 10 million.
