Volkswagen ID Aero concept from the side

Volkswagen is teasing its first fully-electric car, the ID Aero concept, and it might just be Tesla’s biggest competitor.

A fully-electric four-door sedan, it will be officially revealed on June 27 this year.

And unlike so many concepts, the sedan will actually go into production.

The production version of the ID Aero will go on sale in the second half of 2023.

But if you’re looking to get your hands on one soon, you’re out of luck unless you live in China.

The ID Aero will first go on sale in China before the rest of the world even gets a look at it.

A model for the North American and European market will then be unveiled next year before going into production at the company’s plant in Emden, Germany.

Volkswagen has described the car as “the future model for the upper-middle class in China”.

Renders of the concept show an incredibly futuristic-looking design.

The company has taken a very minimalistic approach, with subtle lines and angles.

Much like Tesla.

CHECK THIS OUT!

Volkswagen says the car will have an “aerodynamic front and roof” which will “help to reduce energy consumption and increase range”.

It describes the Volkswagen ID Aero as having “outstanding aerodynamics, elegant design and generous space”.

That’s a lot of use of the word “aerodynamic”, so it’s no surprise where the ID Aero gets its name from.

The company hasn’t revealed what the Volkswagen ID Aero range will be yet.

However, in a previous announcement, the concept was said to have 700kms (435 miles) of range.

There was also no word on the battery size.

So, there’s still a lot Volkswagen is keeping mom about, but we’re hoping all our questions will be answered when the company officially announces it at the digital world premiere on June 27.
