The Breakfast Club radio show is ending.

Show hosts Angela Yee, DJ Envy and Charlamagne Tha God confirmed the show “as we know it” was ending after a 12-year run.

Sad times.

But it’s not all sad, because the show has created some of the most bizarre and memorable moments in pop culture history.

So, counting down from five to one, these are the best moments from The Breakfast Club radio show.

5. Kanye West ‘God’ moment

You can’t have a countdown without Kanye West.

After dominating in the music industry, he created one of the most hyped sneaker brands in the world; Yeezy.

When he was interviewed on The Breakfast Club in 2013, the rapper-turned-designer went off on a tangent.

He called himself a ‘revolutionary’ and said he was ‘ahead of time’.

At one point he even said “people are going to write in the history books about what I’m doing right now”.

Fun fact: Kanye West has legally changed his name to ‘Ye’.

4. 50 Cent brings Hollywood into the studio

50 Cent brought some big Hollywood names with him during one of his many interviews with The Breakfast Club.

After making it in the rap industry, 50 did what a lot of singers do and turned to the movie industry.

In 2018 he starred alongside Pablo Schreiber, O’Shea Jackson Jr. and Gerard Butler in the action heist flick ‘Den of Thieves’.

He has since decided to become a TV producer, including for the award-winning show ‘Power’ on Starz?

50 has appeared on the show a bunch of times, usually to take a dig at his old crew G-Unit or to make fun of Ja Rule.

Their feud began in the early 2000s and it is still on-going.

50 Cent once bought 200 tickets for Ja Rule’s show just so all the front row seats would remain empty during his show.

Iconic.

3. Charlamagne’s controversial comment on Mariah Carey’s body

Best moments from The Breakfast Club No.2 – The queen of R&B

In 2014, R&B singer Mariah Carey made her first appearance on the show.

She talked about her music career as well as her relationship with then-husband Nick Cannon.

Right in the middle of the interview, Mariah stood up to get some coffee and that’s when Charlamagne made the comment.

He said: “no disrepect but I didn’t know you had a*s”.

Mariah played it down and simply responded: “my first album cover, look at the back cover.”

While the singer kept her cool, the internet didn’t and Charlamagne’s comment was quoted and criticized.

The fact that Carey was married to a man 11 years younger than her at the time only added to the controversy.

2. The interview with Barack Obama

The 44th president of the United States, Barack Obama, also made an appearance on the show.

This particular segment was recorded in November 2020, when Obama was no longer in office.

In the interview, he spoke about racism, his marriage and the state of democracy in the U.S.

โ€œTearing things down is a lot easier than building things up,” he said.

This wasn’t the only time the show got ‘political’.

Charlamagne once interviewed the current Vice President of the United States Kamala Harris.

Hillary Clinton has also appeared on the show on two occasions.

1. Birdman ‘respect on my name’ moment

Best moments from The Breakfast Club No.1

This was by far the most memorable moment in the history of the show.

Rapper Birdamn stormed into the studio and accused the radio hosts of talking behind his back.

The rapper was particularly angry at Charlamagne, threatening to “pull up” on him.

Several moments from the brief segment became an internet meme.

Throughout the interview, Birdman repeatedly told the hosts to put ‘respect’ on his name.

In addition to that, he ended the interview by saying, “y’all finished or y’all done?”

Just a few months later, Birdman even tried to cash out on his own meme, making a song and a music video titled ‘Respek‘.
