While many carmakers are turning towards hybrids and electric engines for their supercars, the Aston Martin Vanquish has bucked the trend with its V12 engine.

The luxury marque announced the eagerly anticipated return of its iconic Vanquish back in September.

The upcoming supercar will be the fastest production car the British brand has ever produced, capable of reaching speeds of up to 344km/h (214mph).

Aston Martin says that fewer than 1,000 units will be made each year, meaning the Vanquish will be as exclusive as it is gorgeous.

In recent years, plenty of carmakers have turned their attention to EVs or hybrids.

The LaFerrari successor — the Ferrari F80 —  features a hybrid V6 powertrain, while the company is currently working away on its first ever all-electric

Meanwhile, Rolls-Royce is reportedly planning on ‘going all electric for 2031’ and has a couple of new EVs in the works.

However, when Aston Martin unveiled its revived and revamped Vanquish in September this year, it was revealed it would come with an all-muscle V12 engine.

“To reinvest in the V12 is a bit of an eyebrow raiser, but we believe there’s life and demand left,” Aston Martin product boss Alex Long said at the time.

“It has gone from being ‘just that other engine option’ to something that is truly heralded.”

The Vanquish will be proudly powered by a brand-new 5.2-liter Twin-Turbo V12 which can produce an astonishing 824 horsepower and and 1000Nm of torque.

Designers wanted it to look as though the car has ‘been in the gym’

“With the introduction of Vanquish we have crowned Aston Martin’s next-generation sports car portfolio,” said Aston Martin Executive Chairman, Lawrence Stroll.

“A true halo model in every respect, Vanquish makes an emphatic statement. One that further delivers on our mission to create the most potent, most beautiful, and most exciting cars in the ultra-luxury sports car market.”

Of course, as you’d expect from Aston Martin, the upcoming Vanquish is a stunning-looking vehicle with a bold stance and flowing lines.

An increase to the wheelbase has bolstered its profile, while it’s also received an all-new front bumper, fender, and grille design – making it a real head-turner.

“We want it to look alive. We want it to look as though it’s been in the gym for about 24 months,” said chief creative officer Marek Reichman at its launch.

“It’s like a predatory shark.”

That’s one way of describing it.

First deliveries of the all-new Aston Martin Vanquish are set to arrive at the end of this year, but if you fancy getting your hands on one then you’ll need deep pockets as they come with a starting price of $431,516 (£333,000).
