BYD is a car company that’s taking the global EV market by storm.

The China-based firm is rapidly becoming one of the world’s biggest car companies.

In fact, the firm is starting to take a bite out of EV standard bearers Tesla.

But you cannot buy one in America.

BYD – where did the company come from?

In case you haven’t heard of it, BYD Auto has taken the global car market by storm.

The EV brand is based in Shenzhen, China.

Despite what appears to be a rapid takeover, BYD has actually been around for a while.

In fact, the brand was originally established in 1995 as a different kind of manufacturer.

BYD Auto was first established in January 2003 as an offshoot of BYD Company, the battery manufacturer.

The brand actually produced its first car, the F3, 20 years ago in 2005.

Their first hybrid vehicle, the F3DM, was launched in 2008, while their first all-electric vehicle came in 2009.

How has BYD risen so quickly?

Since 2020, the company has seen a substantial spike in sales and growth.

It’s no coincidence that this growth has come in tandem with demand for hybrid and fully electric vehicles.

At the end of 2023, the Chinese company became the top-selling EV manufacturer in the world.

They beat out direct competition from American rivals Tesla.

Last week, they made the most revolutionary step in the EV world yet.

They announced new charging technology that adds 250 miles of range in just five minutes.

This massively outguns Tesla’s superchargers, which adds 200 miles in 15 minutes.

That means the Chinese firm’s chargers provide 20 percent more range in a third of the time.

Last month, BYD also announced a new, self-driving technology called “God’s Eye”.

This is a direct rival to Tesla’s Full Self-Driving tech, and it’s available at no extra cost.

Chinese firm is shaping the EV world around it

The Chinese company has taken the EV world over almost overnight, it appears.

However, they have been laying the groundwork for success for quite a while now.

The firm pioneered its own battery technology, the “blade battery”, in 2020.

This battery, due to its unique shape, maximizes the amount of space available in the battery pack.

It also reduces the risk of fires if it happens to be damaged.

Furthermore, the company is extremely self-sufficient, as it produces most components in-house.

This allows BYD to be extremely aggressive and competitive with pricing options.

At the moment, Chinese EVs are essentially locked out of the US market due to tariffs.

The maker doesn’t appear to be stopping anytime soon – in fact, it’s laser-focused on global growth.
