Elon Musk has reacted to news about the death of the Apple car in his trademark style.
It’s a shame we will never get to drive the iCar Pro Max, as the company’s efforts to build an EV car for almost a decade were left in the dust.
It was one of the most significant and ambitious projects in the history of the company.
Tech billionaire, Elon Musk, reacted to the tragic news in his trademark fashion: with a bit of humor.
He posted on X (formerly Twitter), with just two emojis after receiving the information, “🫡 🚬.”
In 2015, Apple went on a hiring spree for this project, which prompted Musk to comment on it as well.
“They have hired people we’ve fired. We always jokingly call Apple the ‘Tesla Graveyard’. If you don’t make it at Tesla, you go work at Apple,” Musk told a German news outlet.
This decision marks the end of Project Titan, which was responsible for the research and development of the Apple car.
The decision to cancel the Apple car was disclosed internally within the company by Chief Operating Officer, Jeff Williams, and Vice President, Kevin Lynch, on February 27.
All 2000 project employees working on the Apple EV were left stunned after the news.
Employees from the Apple car team, referred to as the Special Projects Group, will transition to the artificial intelligence division.
Other hardware engineers and vehicle designers on the Apple car team will also get the opportunity to apply for positions in other teams across the company.
However, the company might still lay off a significant portion of the team.
During its development, the design of the Apple EV car was from a steering-wheel-free autonomous vehicle to a conventional car with advanced driver-assistance features.
Apple’s initial plans were to create an EV powered by self-driving software and a breakthrough battery technology.
Unfortunately, the Apple car project has cost the company billions of dollars with nothing to show for it.
