This man bought a car without seeing it for under $2,000 and realized he’d gotten much more than he bargained for.

Edwin Klinkberg Evans, the host of Top Dead Center, picked up a Fiat 500 Abarth from an auction and aimed to get it fixed in a week.

The Fiat 500 had previously been stolen when thieves smashed through the window and ripped out the ignition barrel.

Beyond the shocking backstory, this car had more issues for Edwin to deal with.

The $2,000 car that had a lot of issues to work out

Edwin’s girlfriend wanted a new car but her search bought up a lot of cars that were hiding issues.

She entrusted her boyfriend to find one for her, leading to him having an ingenious idea.

He figured he could fix and upgrade a vehicle while spending less than the $5,085 allocated for the new set of wheels.

Given that the first job would be to repair the ignition barrel that the thieves had ripped out, Edwin had set himself a tall task.

A call to a specialist revealed that the cost for new parts would come to $3,408.

Not ideal – and it would bump up to $4,696 when labor costs were factored in.

But before any work could get done, the car’s interior would need a good cleaning.

Edwin remarked: “Not trying to abuse the previous owner, but what the hell were you doing in here?

“Were you running a stable?”

It could be worse, it could have been a mice colony like this Honda Acura NSX.

A ton of trash needed to be cleared out of the car, which included drink bottles, broken glass, and even a chocolate bar.

The glove compartment was extra gross, and had the hosts covering their noses in disgust.

Edwin said: “It’s peeling but it’s sticky.

“What I need to do is clean this video before my girlfriend sees this video.”

Given that the cameraman was literally recoiling at this interior, it’s safe to say she might have had buyer’s remorse.

There’s nothing worse than a gross interior, as this YouTuber discovered when he looked inside this BMW that had been sitting in a storage yard.

Could this Abarth be saved?

The Abarth is put through a deep clean to rid it off the smells and mold.

Fortunately, the ignition barrel issue is resolved for significantly less money.

And the car runs fine, eliminating further expenses that would have been spent fixing the engine.

Even an improved door and jazzy new seats kept the project under budget.

Edwin said: “The Abarth’s once dreadful interior was finally complete.

“And it looked amazing!”

To think that this was the same Abarth we’d seen at the start of the video is mind blowing.

And it was bought for less than $2,000 – bargain!

It’s always great to see a car being restored on the cheap, but it isn’t always smooth sailing the man who took on rebuilding this $725 BMW discovered.
