Tesla has reportedly started building a seven-seater Model Y

A brand-new Tesla Model Y refresh is coming soon, and it might bring with it a seven-seat variant of the Model Y that would first hit the roads in China.

According to reports, the refreshed configuration would first enter production in China and eventually roll out to other global markets.

Now, a seven-seat variant is nothing new for the Model Y, but not everyone can get it.

A seven-seater configuration is only available for purchase as a $2,000 add-on for customers in the United States.

A new seven-seat Tesla Model Y might arrive soon

A report from the Chinese publication National Business Daily claims that a seven-seater is in the works.

However, Tesla hasn’t confirmed anything yet — not even something that would hint at an upcoming refresh of the series.

It’s safe to say that you should take this news with a grain of salt, but we may yet see a new trim of the Model Y by next year.

The report further claims that Tesla already has all the necessary certifications to sell the new Model Y in European markets.

Currently, the Chinese and European markets only have a five-seater option across all variants, so this could be the beginning of something new.

If this turns out to be a reality, the new variant could significantly boost sales in both regions as everyone likes the EV.

Although, it’s best not to hold onto it until Tesla has to say something about it.

In addition, another media outlet, Shanghai Securities News, directly challenged this claim as false — based on word from an unknown Tesla employee.

Nothing is certain yet

All launches from the automaker usually stay under wraps until it’s almost time for the official announcement, so there’s not much to be known just yet.

In 2023, there were rumors of the Model Y’s ‘Juniper’ series, which is now apparently coming in 2025.

As of now, the company has several major projects with a not-so-long deadline, including the Tesla Robotaxi.

There’s also the Roadster 2.0, which has seen many delays over the years.

However, since the Tesla Model Y was practically one of the best-selling cars of last year, a new variant for global markets makes sense.
