If you own a Tesla Model S or a Model X, your car just got a fancy new update to make your life a little easier.

With the new ‘Hands-Free Trunk’ feature, you can stand behind your car briefly, and the trunk will open automatically.

It’s almost perfect when you’re carrying multiple bags after grocery shopping.

Or an enormous teddy bear, for that matter.

Tesla recently released multiple software updates, which include new features for some models, including the ‘Hands-Free Trunk’ mode.

So, how does it work?

Hand-Free Trunk automatically opens your car’s trunk when you stand behind your Tesla for a while.

Although, it will only do that if you have the ‘Phone Key’ feature turned on.

Further, you will need to enable the Hands-Free Trunk feature in the Tesla app manually.

After enabling the feature, you will hear three chimes when you stand behind the trunk.

These indicate that the trunk is about to open, and after three chimes, it will do the magic.

However, if you move before the car is done making chimes, the trunk won’t open.

That’s a precautionary measure necessary to avoid opening the trunk every time you walk past it.

The automaker is on a roll with these new software updates adding new features to the Tesla cars.

Only recently, they announced a software update for the Cybertruck, which will bring new off-roading features.

The fancy feature only works on the Model S and Model X with a 2021 or further manufacturing date, plus the upgraded Model 3.

Tesla unveiled the feature showcasing it in action via a video post on Musk’s social media platform X.

The video showed a woman carrying a giant teddy bear with both hands in front of their car and the trunk opening automatically so they could store the stuffed toy.

It’s not a huge feature, but surely adds to the convenience.
