A car salesman found a secret when his client tried to swap his Audi for a GMC Denali.
The white 2018 Audi TTRS was taken for a trade-in at a New Jersey dealership to make way for a new run around, but when the car was closely inspected, a hidden secret was uncovered.
After discovering the factor, the salesman took to TikTok to explain how the element needed to be sorted out before a sale could take place.
Let’s just say that it was certainly unexpected.

Now, Audis are loved in the auto world and it’s clear to see why.
In fact, the Audi R8 is even the most googled car on the Internet and is even primed for a comeback in 2027.
The brand is even looking candidly towards the future too with their Q6 concept – a futuristic electric off-roader with incredible torque.
Sometimes, though, car enthusiasts like to switch up their rides, which one Audi owner set out to do – only they failed to disclose vital information to the car dealership they traded in with.
It was time to take a jump from an Audi to a GMC
The goal was to switch up from a 2018 Audi TT RS to a GMC Denali – which, let’s face it, is quite a leap of faith.
However, the car salesman who took the exchange was in for a shocking surprise. Taking to TikTok, Joseph Rodrigues – aka @jrodsellscars – explained how, thanks to car tuning, he was tricked.
“My client traded in his TT RS for a Denali we had in stock, but he failed to tell me a few major things about this car. He actually traded this car with a tune on it and we didn’t even know,” Joseph explained.
This meant that the check engine light was nowhere to be seen as the catalytic converter had been switched out.
“When he traded the car in, no check engine light popped up so we just thought everything was good” he went on.
Even though Joseph explained that it was a stage one tune and ‘nothing crazy’ is still posed as quite the problem as the car needed to be reset in order to land in the hands of a new owner.
What is car tuning?
Tuning is the process of customizing a vehicle and can come in many forms.
From appearance, to the way it performs and even how it runs – a whole bunch of a car’s features can be changed to suit different needs.
This means the changes are often a far cry from how it left the factory.
How did the dealership deal with the Audi surprise?
As the car tune was only at stage one, the dealership had options.
“Yes, it’s tuned, it also has an upgraded exhaust, we’re actually going to get this car back to bone stock,” Joseph continued.
Before selling the car on, they needed to make sure it passed New Jersey inspection.
Their option? Get it back to it’s original state on the dash.
Social media users were amused by the exchange
One user wrote: “Salesman got sold.”
“So you’re telling me you’re a dealership and you took a car in without putting it on the lift and inspecting it? Come on man…” said one user.
Another added: “Failed to tell you or you failed to ask?”
