Hyundai Ioniq 5 ‘XRT’ is an off-road version of the car made specifically for America

The 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 XRT EV is coming, and XRT stands for a special trim designed solely for off-road enthusiasts in America.

Seeing the ‘regular’ Ioniq 5 wasn’t that great for bumpy roads, Hyundai wants to change that with this new trim.

So, how exactly does this EV manage to tackle the extreme off-roading situations?

It’s mostly changes to the overall exterior and a few hardware revamps, but the entire thing seems promising.

New Hyundai Ioniq 5 XRT is all about American off-roading

Last year’s Ioniq 5 was an all-rounder, but it wasn’t exactly branded as an off-road EV.

The automaker refreshed the entire lineup — adding a new Ioniq 5 N variant apart from the off-road XRT version.

To make it go smooth on harsh terrain, the XRT trim gets a suspension lift and sits 0.9 inches higher than the standard version.

Although the extra height will help, its ground clearance is still lower than some of the best off-roaders out there.

Regardless, the suspension lift should certainly be able to conquer a great deal of bumpy roads.

The new Ioniq 5 XRT also has a bright red front hook and a 2.6-tonne (5,834-pound) towing capacity.

In the ‘appearance’ section, the automaker gave the Ioniq 5 XRT new bumpers covered in ‘digital camouflage.’

Moreover, it has black mirror caps, all-weather floor mats, and unique seat covers exclusive to the XRT trim.

Not just an exterior revamp

An off-roader isn’t truly an off-roader without an appropriate set of tires, which is why the carmaker put in 18-inch wheels wrapped around all-terrain tires.

To top it off, the new Ioniq 5 comes with a standard Tesla North American Charging Standard (NACS) port.

That means owners of the 2025 models will be able to pull up to any Tesla’s Supercharger station to charge their cars.

It’s a massive gain for the EV community, plainly because Tesla has the largest network of charging stations across the United States.

While Hyundai has yet to reveal performance numbers for the XRT trim, its dual-motor AWD drivetrain will likely receive a slight upgrade over the standard variants.

We will know more when the official numbers are out, but it looks like a promising package overall.
