The upcoming Apple iOS18 is reportedly going to answer one of the questions Apple fans have been asking for years.
Namely, what’s going on with Siri?
The new iOS update, set to be launched soon, will finally upgrade Siri in a meaningful way.

Siri was unveiled in 2011 and even though progress has been made, Apple’s digital assistant often comes up in conversations when people about Apple things that aren’t great.
Among other things, Apple users and fans essentially complain that Siri is still too similar to what it was 13 years ago.
In other words, it’s a 13-year-old feature that perhaps doesn’t show 13 years’ worth of technological progress.
This is likely to change thanks to Apple’s revised strategy when it comes to AI.
Apple, who by the way hardly ever actually uses the word ‘AI’, recently decided to scrap the car project and divert funds and resources to AI things.
The new iOS18, set to be unveiled on June 10, will make abundant use of generative AI, including for AI-powered text summarization, which is rumored to be one of the big new features.
The idea is to let ‘new’ Siri do most of the work when it comes to documents, web pages, or even conversation threads.
With AI, Siri will analyze what it’s seeing, or reading, and provide an accurate summary of all the key points.
The new language model they’ve developed, called ‘Ajax’, would also be able to help the iPhone seamlessly and quickly integrate different apps.
Here’s a practical example.
Let’s imagine a long work email, with a dozen people in CC, which contains only one or two lines that are actually relevant pieces of information for one of the iPhone users that received it.
Say, for example, a work call with John or Jane Doe at some point next week.
Siri would detect that bit of info, provide a summary, and automatically add that to the calendar, including the correct contact from the Contact app.
We’ll find out more on June 10.
The only thing that’s certain is that Apple will probably still refuse to say ‘AI’.
Just like it never mentions ‘VR’ when talking about the Vision Pro, they actually call it ‘Spatial Computing‘.
