Lewis Hamilton has expressed an interest in making a modern version of the Ferrari F40.

The 40-year-old racing driver first spoke of his desire for the project back in 2019, before going quiet for a few years.

But it appears that a collaboration is back on the table.

And better yet, Hamilton has come up with a name for the hypothetical car – the F44.

Lewis Hamilton wants to bring a modern Ferrari F40 to the streets

As far as celebrities go, few love their cars as much as Lewis Hamilton.

That’s to be expected though, right? He is an F1 champion after all.

He’s been linked to cars such as the Nissan GT-R R-34, a Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R, and tons more.

Starting in 2025, he drives for Ferrari’s team, having previously competed for Mercedes.

But his associations with the Ferrari brand don’t end on the track.

In fact, the British superstar wants to play a role in creating a special edition version of the F40 which could be street legal.

The F40 was personally approved by Enzo Ferrari just before his death in 1988, and made its debut the following year.

Only 1,311 were produced in total, and at the time it was Ferrari’s fastest, most powerful, and most expensive car.

It was produced in between 1987 and 1992.

Now, over 30 years later, Hamilton wants to play a part in its revival.

“One of the things I really want to do is I want to design a Ferrari. I want to do an F44,” he told Motorsport.

A brief history of the star’s love for the car

Hamilton started off his career racing for Ferrari by posing alongside the iconic F40 car.

In a post shared to Instagram, he described the moment as a dream come true.

“There are some days that you know you’ll remember forever and today, my first as a Ferrari driver, is one of those days.

“I’ve been lucky enough to have achieved things in my career I never thought possible, but part of me has always held on to that dream of racing in red. I couldn’t be happier to realize that dream today.

“Today we start a new era in the history of this iconic team, and I can’t wait to see what story we will write together,” he wrote.

With it being there from the first day of his Ferrari career, it makes sense that he wants to help reinvent it.
