After all this time, the highly-celebrated Lexus LFA is getting a successor, and it will be nothing short of outrageous with its speculated V8 engine, producing over 600 hp and rivaling the Aston Martin Vantage and Mercedes-AMG GT coupe.

As per tradition, the newest V8 supercar will homologate the Toyota GR GT3 race car, which obviously isn’t road-legal.

Since it will have the same roots as the Toyota racer, we know enough to speculate that it will be a worthy LFA successor.

The next Lexus will be based on a Toyota racer

Toyota’s GR GT3 is on track to debut in 2026, and FIA rules require the race car to have a road version, whose responsibility is on Lexus, as per Autocar.

Moreover, Toyota has been on top of its game at creating capable racers recently, which only suggests that this latest project will be promising, to say the least.

It will certainly be exciting for fans of the racer, but enthusiasts of ‘regular’ sports cars are in for a treat.

The racer allegedly gets power from a twin-turbocharged V8, but the Lexus version might get some electrification — and become a hybrid.

Further, the LFA successor, which some expect to have the ‘Lexus LFR’ title, will launch in a very competitive bracket.

There’s not much to know about the car, apart from some spy shots or wild concepts of an electric Lexus.

Its direct rivals will be some of the best sports cars that launched this year, so Lexus and Toyota need to put their A-game in the project.

Competing with capable sports cars

To compete with the Aston Marton Vantage, the upcoming Lexus needs to produce over 600 horsepower.

But that’s a ‘no-biggie’ for the V8, and if it’s a hybrid, it doesn’t even need to break a sweat.

However, beating something much more powerful — the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance, which produces 805 hp, it will be quite a challenge.

But for enthusiasts, competition is great because in the end, you get competitive and capable cars.

It will be interesting to compare the LFA successor to the GT 63 because the coupe features a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 hybrid.

Lexus might just need all the extra power from a hybrid powertrain that it can get.

There’s not much ‘official’ information about the upcoming sports car yet, but we do know that it’s a long way off.

The British automaker will debut the sports car at the 24 Hours at Daytona in January 2026.

Until then, all we can do is watch for rumors and wait for an official word.
